In today's rapidly evolving educational landscape, technological advancements have become indispensable in shaping the future of learning. One such innovation is Artificial Intelligence (AI), and its impact on education cannot be overstated. Though AI has been around for over 50 years now, it is ChatGPT, an AI language model with over 100 million users, that has captivated educators worldwide. At InteDashboard, we believe in staying at the forefront of technological transformations to empower educators and enrich the learning experiences of students. We recently organized panel discussions titled ChatGPT in TBL: An Enabler or Disruptor? that explored ChatGPT's potential in team-based learning (TBL) classrooms, and now we are excited to share how instructors can leverage ChatGPT to enhance their teaching.
On the panel, we had Annetta Dolowitz, TBL consultant and instructional designer, Brian O’Dwyer, Founder and CEO of InteDashboard, Mark Png, Chief Technology Officer of InteDashboard, and Dr. Sarada Bulchand, Associate Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School. The discussion was moderated by Shreya Verma, Director of Marketing at InteDashboard.
With this blog post, we aim to share how instructors can leverage ChatGPT to enhance various aspects of their courses, including writing learning objectives, providing feedback, generating discussion prompts, and optimizing the learning experience for their students.

Writing Learning Objectives:
Writing clear and precise learning objectives is essential for effective teaching. Instructors can use ChatGPT to craft comprehensive learning objectives. By providing the AI model with a detailed scenario, learning context, and desired outcomes, instructors can easily prompt it to generate and optimise learning outcomes, thus helping instructors set a clear direction for students taking the course. Below is an example of how you can use ChatGPT to optimise existing course learning outcomes. -
Providing Narrative/Detailed Feedback to Students:
In a large team-based learning classroom, providing individualised team feedback, especially during applications can be challenging. ChatGPT can help address this challenge by analyzing a model answer and assessment criteria provided by the instructor and then generating constructive feedback for the teams. Instructors, will thus be able to provide personalized feedback, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement for each team. -
Generating Discussion Prompts:
Engaging classroom discussions are the heart of team-based learning environments. Instructors can collaborate with ChatGPT to generate compelling discussion prompts that foster critical thinking, collaboration, and meaningful interactions among students. The AI models can generate thought-provoking prompts, which can help instructor facilitate a deepened discussion among the students and team.
Instructors can use ChatGPT to rewrite question stems, create grading rubrics, and optimize existing coursework while saving time and enhancing the learning experience.
