Team-Based Learning Fundamental Series

We are excited to offer a five series workshop that allows Team-Based Learning educators to obtain the Fundamentals Certificate from the Team-Based Learning Collaborative. All workshops are offered online. You can choose to take as few or as many as you like. 

The five workshops required to obtain the Fundamentals Certificate are:

  1. Fundamental Principles and Practices of TBL

  2. Creating an Effective TBL Module

  3. Evaluating Multiple Choice Questions for Readiness Assurance Tests and Application Activities

  4. Improving Facilitation Skills for a TBL Classroom

  5. Peer Feedback and Evaluation



These workshops will be delivered in an online synchronous modality using the Team-Based Learning process of prework, readiness assurance and application. All workshops will be three hours long. 



This series is designed for newer TBL educators that are seeking professional development in the fundamental areas of TBL. Experienced TBL educators may benefit from experiencing TBL in an online modality where learners are in different locations.


The series runs from 10 January - 24 January 2020 on following timings:

Singapore: 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.

Sydney: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

London: 12 a.m. - 3 a.m.

Also, taking note of the time zones, for US, the series will run from 9 January - 23 January, 2020

New York: 7 p.m. - 10 p.m.

Each workshop costs US$110 per workshop. If you choose to sign up for all five workshops, the full series is discounted at US$500. If you'd like to sign up as an institution, we offer customized pricing which will depend on the number of faculty members you would like to enroll. Please email for details on customized pricing for institutes.

Note that to receive your Fundamentals Certificate, you will also need to purchase annual membership and the certificate from the Team-Based Learning Collaborative. Details of annual pricing can be found here. The certificate costs $25 per person as mentioned here. These purchases can be made before, during or after you have completed the workshop series depending on your preference.

Robert Kamei, MD, is currently Professor of Paediatrics at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and specializes in medical education.  As the founding Vice Dean of Education at Duke-NUS Medical School in 2006, he was responsible for bringing Duke University’s medical curriculum to Singapore and implementing a TBL curriculum, one of the first successful TBL efforts in the world.    His work influenced the development of education programs at institutions around the world.  He is one of the academic founders of Cognalearn.

Robert K Kamei


Dr. Cook is the Deputy Head, Office of Education at Duke-National University of Singapore Medical School in Singapore. She also serves as the Deputy Director of the Academic Medicine Education Institute (AMEI). Most recently, she founded the Asia-Pacific chapter of the Team-Based Learning Collaborative. Dr. Cook is also involved with other medical education organizations such as the International Association of Medical Science Educators, Association of Medical Educators of Europe. In addition Dr. Cook serves on the editorial board for Medical Science Education Journal, the Proceedings of Singapore Health Care, and Annals, Academy of Medicine Singapore.

Dr. Sandy Cook


Brian O'Dwyer is a TBL educator and entrepreneur. Having taught with TBL at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Singapore for 3 years, he now helps other educators set up their TBL courses through workshops and consulting services. Brian is also the founder of, the world's leading software for TBL.
